LA Shag team - ahhh this makes me want to do way more shag! Need more shag in life!

I recognize a couple of people from visiting other Lindy Hop scenes in California. I love traveling and seeing familiar faces. Dancing is amazing!

Learn Swing Dancing in Fresno!

Fresno Swing Dance is hosting another beginner’s series for anyone interested in learning Lindy Hop starts the first Wednesday of every month (to-night!). Drop-in intermediate lessons every Wednesday. Lindy Hop is a form a swing dance that was first popular during the 1920s-WWII era. Here’s an example).

I’ve been learning this dance for three years and here are some of the many reasons why I love the dance and community:

  1. No partner required! No need to stress out about bringing someone because it’s completely normal to dance with everyone.
  2. Everyone is friendly because, well, they’re friendly and not because they’re hitting on you. People are there to be social and have fun, not to date. Weird.
  3. It’s a great way to feel more comfortable being your true, silly self. Lindy Hop is an energetic dance and it becomes more dynamic when you show your personality. Being yourself is encouraged. It’s helped me feel a lot more comfortable in public situations.
  4. Love Doctor Who and other sci-fi shows? How about everything and anything vintage? Oh, and jazz music?! So does the entire community…almost
  5. It’s like exercising without feeling like it’s a chore! At some events, I’ve spent 5-8 hours, straight, dancing and it’s a lot more enjoyable than working out at the gym.
  6. Travel! I have an excuse to travel all over the West Coast and meet people who are interested in the same things as I am!

Details - Every Wednesday - Studio 65 - Lessons start at 7pm (separate lessons for beginners and intermediate). Social dance hour starts at 8:15pm. Check out Fresno Swing Dance’s page for more info, videos, and event updates.
