The city I live in actually has some nice buildings downtown

Just a couple of the many downtown Fresno buildings on the register of historic places: Pacific Southwest Building (aka National Bank Building), on the left, and the Bank of Italy Building, on the right.

My favorite part of the #FresnoFair is the Junior Exhibits Building. I enjoyed seeing how important creating things are to young adults/children of the Central Valley.

On top is a photo of rubble and a mural in Fresno’s Chinatown (Lauren Jonson, Buchanan HS). Bottom left is a vase (Kayla Moreno, Central West) and bottom right is a bench welded from old truck parts (Juan C. Zavala, Clovis FFA).

Pictured is Laura Barboza, theater operator, at the night of the grand re-opening of the Teatro Azteca in Fresno’s Chinatown. (Source: Valley Public Radio)

I attended this event and, there, I met Ezra David Romero. Ezra is a reporter and producer of Valley Public Radio. He did an amazing job reporting on the history of the region’s only Spanish language theater and Laura’s vision for the theater and the community.

I’ll be there selling vintage buttons! There’s A LOT more than what’s pictured. Like, 75+ pounds more.

The General Plan establishes a vision for the future and provides a set of goals, policies, and programs that form a blueprint for the physical development of the City. The document accomplishes this through written text and diagrams that express how our community should develop, and is a key tool for influencing quality of life and economic development opportunities. The plan also serves as a basis for land use decision-making bodies, such as the Planning Commission and City Council. The existing General Plan was updated more than 12 years ago and is in need of updating to reflect market changes.

I’ve been trying to improve my sewing skills while using what I have around the house. I had this dress I bought from YoshiNOW! (a vintage store in downtown Fresno) lying around. To make it more wearable, for me, I turned it into a skirt. I shortened the hemline, added an adjustable waistband and replaced the buttons with red ones. The skirt has three of my favorite things in an outfit: a bow, buttons, and pockets! Finishing a sewing project makes me so giddy!

Raizana Tea, my favorite Fresno tea shop, is offering a 20% off discount on all tea orders. Use coupon code “newsite20” when you order online. You can also visit them at their downtown Fresno location (2011 Tuolumne St.) and present the above photo to them for the discount.

Offer expires October 9, 2014.

Creative Fresno recently started a new project called, the mobile mural project. Last weekend, hundreds of Fresno-Area residents took part in painting a mural at the Big Fresno Fair. The mural will be on display at the fine arts and photography building. You can read more about the project, here
